Fitting panels over existing tiles
Every Pannello panel can be fitted over existing tiling. That is usually the single biggest reason a panel refit beats a re-tile: there is no strip-out, no skip, no waiting for plaster to dry, and no dust through the rest of the house.
How it works
Lightly sand glossy tiles so the adhesive has something to grip, make sure the surface is clean and dry, then apply solvent-free adhesive directly on top of the tiles and fix the panel. This is method B in the installation guide.
When to use battens instead
If the tiled wall is noticeably uneven — bowed, or with badly lipped tiles — fix wooden battens horizontally at 600mm centres and adhere the panels to the battens. The battens take out the unevenness that would otherwise telegraph through the panel.
What you avoid
- No tile removal, so no skip hire and no damaged plaster to make good
- No re-plastering or drying time before the new surface goes on
- No grout lines to seal, clean or eventually re-do
- Far less dust and disruption than a strip-out
Common questions
- Can you put PVC wall panels over tiles?
- Yes. Every Pannello panel can be fitted directly over existing tiling. Lightly sand glossy tiles first so the solvent-free adhesive grips.
- Do I need to remove old tiles before panelling?
- No. Panels are designed to go straight over sound existing tiles, which avoids the strip-out, the skip and the re-plastering.
- What if the tiled wall is uneven?
- Fix wooden battens horizontally at 600mm centres and adhere the panels to the battens. That takes out unevenness that would otherwise show through the panel.
